Full/Part Time: Full Time

Investigator: Aikawa, Elena

Date Posted: 2019-01-16

Description: A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Aikawa Elena laboratory at the Center for Excellence in Vascular Biology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Our goal is to better understand the mechanisms of ectopic calcification in atherosclerotic arteries and cardiac valves, which leads to acute coronary events, aortic valve stenosis, and heart failure. We particularly focus on the inflammatory aspects of these calcific diseases. Our task requires a multidisciplinary research team consisting of investigators with broad experience in cellular and molecular biology and expert knowledge in innate and adaptive immunity. Research focus will include investigation of therapeutic targets and development of novel therapeutic strategies to combat cardiovascular calcification. The successful candidate will enjoy excellent training opportunities in a collaborative research environment and will be exposed to a wide array of state-of-the-art technologies, including cellular and molecular biology, single cell analysis, proteomics and systems biology, histopathology, innovative animal models, and molecular imaging. There will be many opportunities to benefit from the rich and diverse scientific environment of Harvard Medical School and through the group established collaborations.

Requirements: The candidate requires an MD, PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree, and should have excellent experimental and analytical skills in cellular and molecular biology, and a record of publications in cardiovascular biology, immunology, calcification, bone metabolism, or related disciplines. The position also requires the ability to work independently as well as to perform effectively within a team. Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills are essential. Experience with small animal in vivo experiments is preferred. We expect a strong interest in cardiovascular pathophysiology, outstanding motivation and creativity, and a firm commitment to productivity. Please send your CV, an outline of your research interests, and names and addresses of three references to Dr. Elena Aikawa at
