The Cardiac Research Laboratory directed by Principal Investigator Dr. Julie Phillippi is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our interdisciplinary team and conduct NIH-supported research on microvascular function in human cardiovascular disease. Our laboratory within the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine maintains a human tissue and vascular cell bank to aid our investigations of cell-matrix mechanisms of microvascular function in cardiovascular disease. The long-term goal of our research is to develop less invasive and preventative therapies for cardiovascular disease through an improved understanding of the microvascular pathophysiology.  The prospective candidate will have a PhD in physiology, cell biology, bioengineering, or similar field of study.  The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience in the following areas: microvascular biology and physiology, endothelial function, angiogenesis, and models of tissue hypoxia. The ideal candidate will also bring a proficiency in skills such as pressure myography, vascular cell culture, angiogenesis assays, animal surgery, and histology. The candidate should be evidently self-driven for independent research productivity, possess excellent interpersonal skills and a high caliber of professional conduct and be able to interface with clinical and basic science faculty, research associates, and students. The candidate should also exhibit excellent written and oral English communication skills and will be expected to publish in peer-reviewed journals, present results at scientific conferences, apply for external funding opportunities, and participate in the preparation of grant applications from the team and with collaborators.
As a part of the postdoctoral training experience, the candidate can expect to receive mentorship in developing a research program and writing research proposals and to participate in formal career development programs.
