ISACB Announces Winners of Allan D. Callow, MD, PhD Young Investigator Awards at 14th Biennial Meeting
ISACB is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2014 Allan D. Callow, MD, PhD Young Investigator Awards which were presented at the Gala Dinner and Awards Program held at the Cleveland Museum of Art on the evening of April 4, 2014. The Young Investigator Award for best Oral Abstract Presentation was presented to Jason R. Cook from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai, New York, NY for his presentation entitled “Characterization of dilated cardiomyopathy in mice with Marfan Syndrome”. The Young Investigator Award for best Poster Presentation was presented to M.K. Sewell-Loftin from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN for her presentation entitled “Micromechanical Analysis of Heart Valves Via Atomic Force Microscopy”.
The Young Investigator Awards are named in honor of Allan D. Callow, MD, PhD. Dr. Callow was ISACB’s founding President and a champion for the integral participation of trainees in ISACB meetings. Since 1989 ISACB has awarded 51 Young Investigator Awards to talented trainees working in the field of Applied Cardiovascular Biology. For the 14th Biennial Meeting more than 40 applicants vied for the awards. Cook and Sewell-Loftin were chosen from a field of 6 finalists that had been selected by the Awards Committee.
