Frederick Schoen, M.D., Ph.D., Elected as ISACB President
Frederick Schoen, M.D., Ph.D., was elected at the ISACB Executive Council meeting in La Jolla in March to serve as President of ISACB from 2006-2008. Dr. Schoen replaced Howard Greisler, M.D., who had served as ISACB’s President since 1998. Dr. Schoen has served for many years on the ISACB Executive Council. He is a Professor of Pathology and Health Sciences and Technology at Harvard Medical School and is also Director of Cardiac Pathology and Executive Vice-Chairman in the Department of Pathology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. In addition to Dr. Schoen’s election, Steven Schmidt, Ph.D. was re-elected to serve as ISACB Secretary/Treasurer for 2006-2008 and the following ISACB members were appointed to serve terms on the Executive Council: Elena Aikawa, M.D., Ph.D., Art Coury, Ph.D., Simon Hoerstrup, M.D., Ph.D., David Vorp, Ph.D., and David Williams, Dsc FREng. There are 16 members on ISACB’s Executive Council providing leadership to the organization and 7 members of the Advisory Board. The Advisory Board includes members who have had important roles in ISACB during the past 19 years.

ISACB has been informed by the 2007 Society For Biomaterials Program Committee Chair that a proposal between ISACB and the Society for
Abstracts for the symposium can be submitted through www.biomaterials.org by November 1, 2006.

ISACB Membership
If you have not done so, please renew your current annual membership. Your membership dues maintain the operations of the business office for ISACB throughout the year and are important in supporting the development and production of our biennial meetings. Hard copies of membership renewal notices have been sent to the offices of all members. You may renew by payment with credit card or check. Please contact Steven.Schmidt@isacb.org if you have questions about the renewal of your membership.And yes, ISACB continues to attract new members. Stephen Badylak, DVM, MD, PhD, Research Professor in the Department of Surgery Director of Tissue Engineering at the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine at The University of Pittsburgh, and small intestinal submucosa (SIS) innovator is ISACB’s newest member. ISACB is pleased to welcome Dr. Badylak as a full member of the society.
