Faculty Position in Regenerative Medicine-Nationwide Children's Hospital

October 15, 2021

The Center for Regenerative Medicine at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital seeks outstanding candidates for recruitment at the assistant, associate, or full professor rank with a laboratory-based focus on cardiovascular disease, and/or areas of basic science relevant to regenerative medicine.

The new faculty member will hold a PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree, and will be expected to be an active participant in the mission of the Center for Regenerative Medicine to develop and accelerate the translation of novel tissue engineering technology into the clinic.  Although the center is concentrated on cardiovascular diseases, interests in other areas of emphasis will be considered.

The center is interested in all aspects of regenerative medicine, including but not limited to the use of mechanistic-based studies to elucidate the principles underlying neotissue formation; rational design of strategies to improve the performance of tissue engineered constructs; and computational modeling to accelerate the development and translation of tissue engineering technologies to the clinic.

The new faculty will be expected to be an active participant in advancing this mission by establishing an impactful independent research program supported by extramural funding, developing basic and translational scientific collaborations, providing mentorship to colleagues, training the next generation of researchers, and participating in center activities.

Faculty in the Center for Regenerative Medicine are supported by on-site access to affiliated pre-clinical and GMP production facilities, a robust Office of Technology Commercialization, and a world-class genomics core specializing in next-generation sequencing. In-house expertise in regulatory affairs, including IND and IDE development and submission, is provided through the Office of Research Regulatory Affairs, and expertise in development of investigator-initiated clinical studies is provided by the Center for Regenerative Medicine and the Heart Center at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  The opportunity to train PhD or MD/PhD students is provided by Ohio State University graduate programs.

The Abigail Wexner Research Institute is ranked in the top ten nationally in NIH funding to free-standing children’s hospitals. Research programs are organized into 14 multidisciplinary Centers of Emphasis structured to encourage collaboration, facilitate team science, and foster creativity.

Ranked eighth among children’s hospitals on U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll,” Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit freestanding pediatric health care networks providing wellness, preventive, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitative care for infants, children and adolescents, as well as adult patients with congenital disease.

As Ohio’s state capital, Columbus and its surrounding metro area is a thriving, diverse, technologically sophisticated city with a population of over 2,000,000. Quality of life and cost of living are outstanding.

Inquiries and nominations are encouraged. Please submit your CV and personal statement via email to Christopher Breuer, MD, c/o Faculty Recruitment at Patrick.kennedy@nationwidechildrens.org
